General Motors, also known as GM is an American multinational company with its headquarters established in Detroit Michigan in 1908 which deals with designing, manufacturing and distribution of auto vehicles and their parts. The company till date employs millions of people and serves in almost 23 countries across 6 continents. The most well-known brands introduced in the market under General Motors include Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Holden, Baojun, Wuling, and Jiefang. General Motors has been driven to excel in terms of engine and performance, improving in those areas each year which is why they are able to maintain their position in the industry.

It has taken a lot of years for General Motors to build up their name in the industry. With constant innovation that they bring in their vehicles, with the quality and the luxury that their products offer and with the kind of services they provide to the customers for life, GM has been successful in building a very strong brand name for themselves and over the years, it is now their competitive advantage itself. They have successfully placed their brand name in the minds of the consumers just the way they wanted to be and their brand name is now enough to sell their products and services around the world.

General Motor follows a strategy where they believe in developing life-long relationships with their customers and work really hard to provide the satisfaction that their customers need once they have decided to build this relationship with General Motors. Due to this, they have been successful in keeping their customers for years and the customers have just learned to trust GM over the years and they never think of switching to another company which gives GM their competitive advantage. This relationship is then also extended to their employees as well as their dealers which just creates a very strong supply chain and strengthens their business.

General Motors has also dedicated themselves in serving the environment through their business and making sure that their vehicles are in no way harming the environment. This gives them a competitive edge as they are involved with the highest number of clean energy patents. They also won an award because of that in 2016, called the Green Car of the year award. They are also involved in tackling climate change and are the only automaker to sign a climate declaration which shows their dedication towards this cause. Moreover, they are also involved with other social causes like health care, child safety, education, disaster relief and community development which also make them the leader in working towards these causes as compared to their competitors.

All these factors are the proof of the fact that General Motors has become so powerful over the years and are now way ahead of its competition. It was also ranked at #21 in the Forbes list 2017 for America’s Top Public Companies.
